Four Points Mom & Books – Summer 2020

Four Points Mom & Books – Summer 2020

Like so many of you, I’ve spent this summer in a weird funk.  We had AMAZING days and we had some days that we couldn’t wait to end.  However, I did have tons of time to listen to audiobooks while I multi-tasked around the house.  Plus, wait for it … I even read a few books that I held in my hand.  You know, those things that you can hold in your hands and turn the pages?  It was lovely.

Anyways, I wanted to share with you some of my favorites and not-so-favorites from this past summer.  You can also find my ratings on my GoodReads page (and don’t forget to add me as a friend – I love seeing what everyone else is reading).   Be sure to comment below on your favorite reads from the summer.

Summer 2020 Recap

READ IT!

This has been on my list to read for ages, and 2020 allowed me the time to do it.  It was long, but I found it so interesting to recognize the origins of so many elements of other pop culture movies and books.

SKIP IT!

I just never got into this one which was sad because the book had rave reviews.

READ IT!

This book was very eye-opening and heartbreaking.  I enjoyed it so much and recommend it.

READ IT!

Lisa Jewell books are some of my favorites and this one didn’t disappoint.  It was a really interesting story and I recommend it.

READ IT!

I was never a HUGE fan of Jessica Simpson, but I have always admired her “take me as I am” honesty.  I really enjoyed her book (and listening to the audiobook with her narrating was an added bonus).

READ IT!

This is the best book I’ve read in a really long time!  5 STARS!  So unique and I wish I could find more books like it.  🙂

SKIP IT!

The book has funny moments but the author was just a little too weird and not funny most of the book, in my opinion.

READ IT!

This was a nice beach read, but be careful because if you’re reading it now you might get depressed wishing you could be on a remote island instead of where you are right now.  😉

SKIP IT!

I loved the premise of the book but I just never got into it.

TOSS UP!

I love Reese SO MUCH and to be honest I pretty much want to be her.  However, she’s just a little too fancy southern for me.  It’s a great coffee table book and I did enjoy it though.

READ IT!

I love most of her books and this one didn’t disappoint.  It’s not one of my favorites but it’s in the top half.  Great beach read!

READ IT!

This controversial classic has come up often in the past year.  I’m so glad I read it because I understand the controversy now and I also learned so much about the time period.

SKIP IT!

I found myself wanting to scream at the main character the whole book.  It just created a ton of anxiety and that wasn’t something I needed!

READ IT!

I love Jen Hatmaker and enjoyed her latest book.  The audiobook is a bonus because you just feel like you’re hanging with a girlfriend.

TOSS UP!

You could definitely predict this one, but it was a light, sweet read.

READ IT!

Horowitz is one of my new favorite crime authors!  Magpie Murders was excellent and The Word is Murder didn’t disappoint either.

READ IT!

This is an incredible book and I was fascinated by so many of the stories within.  I think it’s a great read for this unique time in history and highly recommend it!

READ IT!

This wasn’t a super happy book, but it was a lovely story.

READ IT!

Wow.  I’m embarrassed that I didn’t know much about this woman’s case (other than basic headlines).  This was a great book about a horrendous theme to many women’s lives today.  Very sad, yet worth the read.

SKIP IT!

I just didn’t love this one.

READ IT!

This book was not at all like what I expected, but I did really enjoy it.

TOSS UP!

I didn’t love this story, but I do like Silver’s writing.  I’ll check in for her next book and hope it reminds me more of One Day in December.

READ IT!

What a shocking read!  If you enjoyed The Handmaid’s Tale or Hunger Games you’ll like The Grace Year.

READ IT!

This book kept me guessing and it was an interesting read.  I recommend it!
