Happy Valentine’s Day my beautiful friends!
Valentine’s Day just gets me in the best mood. I love seeing all the pretty, frilly decorations everywhere and since I can’t wear pink and red hearts head to toe, you better believe I make sure Parker has her holiday apparel in check. 😉
It’s been quite some time since I did a Friday Favorites post, so I thought I should start with a little refresher. Friday Favorites posts are totally random slices of favorites. Here’s a link to my last Friday Favorites to give you some back story. You can also search for Friday Favorites in the top menu to find more of these posts.
The Austin Marathon is this weekend!
On my birthday last July, I committed to finally knock off an item on my bucket list that I’d been ignoring for quite some time. I’ve run a few half marathons and have always enjoyed running as a form of exercise (i.e., a way to allow me to consumer more calories … ha ha). Back in 2011 while living in Seattle I trained for the Rock N Roll Marathon there but injured myself on the 18-mile training run. It was such a bummer! Then I had Foster, then I had Parker, and then I came up with a million other excuses to not train again.
No more excuses for me now! I’m so excited to be just two days from running the Austin Marathon. If I’m honest, though, I’m mostly excited to get my life back next week. Running 40 miles a week is definitely a time suck. Now that I’m working again it’s the perfect time because there’s no way I could have fit in those training runs over the past few months with a job, mom duty, PTA duty, and such. For those of you who do this regularly, kudos to you! You are superwomen and supermen!
Foster tried out basketball again this year and he’s starting to really have fun with the sport.
We are not a basketball family, so the poor kid had quite a disadvantage going into the sport. Foster is a kid that excels in many areas of his life, but when it’s an area that he’s not the best (or close to the best), he really struggles. We’ve read so many parenting books that emphasize grit and making kids push through these tough moments, but I think it might even be harder on me than it is on him.
Yay – this was his first goal this season. 🙂 At least flag football season and swim team are coming up soon because he loves those and it shows. If you have tips for me, please send them my way. I find myself losing my patience and getting frustrated when he gives up or gets a poor attitude. Help me keep my cool and just let him work it out!
Parker continues to love gymnastics. She was asked to join the “accelerated program” at gymnastics and it’s been perfect for Parker. She now has lots of friends in her class and gets the chance to compete a bit against these friends.
She keeps asking if she can do dance class too, but I’m on the fence as I don’t really want to keep adding activities, especially since she’ll be starting swim team in April (and get-ready-for-swim-team) refresher lessons in March. We’ll likely do a dance camp this summer and see if she loves it more than gymnastics.
Cheer!
Okay, in case you’ve been living under a rock, Netflix’s Cheer docu-series is taking the world by storm. I watched it a few weeks ago and am obsessed. I cheered back in the day so it brings back all of those happy, warm feelings. (Go Indians!).
I highly recommend it! One of the cheerleaders highlighted in the series, Jerry, was Ellen’s interviewer at the Oscars on Sunday and so many celebrities were jazzed to see him. What a fun experience for him! And if you want to laugh hysterically at tweets about this show, check this out. You are welcome!
And, in case you want to see how it was done back in the day, check out my team’s national performance. LOL. We definitely weren’t up to par with Navarro and the footage is quite subpar (my poor mom was too excited to maintain focus as I was putting it all out there on the mat!).
Okay, I’m dying laughing listening to all of our sweet moms scream their hearts out at us. As a mom myself now, I CANNOT imagine how nauseous I will be when my kid is competing under high stakes one day. Yikes!
The last “favorite” for me today is my new job.
I’m loving helping so many families plan their vacations! Whether you have a small budget and are wanting help squeezing every dollar out of it to give your kids a Disney vacation to remember or you just want to splurge and take it all in, I can help guide you along the process. Just fill out this form to let me know how I can help and I’ll be in touch!
I mean, seriously. How incredible is the new Riviera Resort at Disney World? You’re right there on the Skyliner which means you’ll be at Hollywood Studios and Epcot in a matter of minutes!
Plus, I’m enjoying living vicariously through my clients … this week I’ve been planning trips to Hawaii, Disneyland, Disney World, Arizona, and Europe.
Alright friends, that’s it for me today. I’ll be back next week to wrap up my Disney World visit to Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Bippity Boppity Boutique!
