Summer of Birthdays
I’m on cloud nine right now because not only did I have a wonderful birthday this summer, but I also celebrated the first birthday of Four Points Mom. Woohoo!
And I think this photo of me in my PJs, with no makeup and unbrushed hair pretty much sums up my #momlife and #austinblogger life this past year.

One Year in the Blogging and Social Media World
It was a little over a year ago when I started getting an itch to do something for me. Although I worked part-time and I was momming every other waking moment, I felt like something was missing. Even better, what if I could do something that helped others? Hmmm… One night I was talking this over with my husband and I linked my desire to do something that can help others to my frustration that a resource for local moms in my community didn’t really exist. Voila. Four Points Mom became my fun side project. After the kids went to bed and early in the mornings I was at my computer, writing new posts and resource pages. It was incredible to watch my blog grow over the next few months. I soon realized that I wasn’t the only mom in the Four Points area looking for fun things to do with their kids in a reasonable drive zone.
Although I had played around a bit with WordPress web pages before, I really didn’t know anything about running a website. I spent countless hours searching for ways to do different things with the website. It’s embarrassing how much time I’d waste trying to slightly adjust the font of my header or make the background image slightly lighter.
However, here I am a year later and I am an official blogger. That sounds crazy! I’ve posted 148 posts and have created 14 resource pages. I now know how to edit photos and can whip together a featured photo (the photo that shows up at the top of each post) with text in a matter of minutes.
I’ll never forget what a friend of mine said to me one day about a year ago. Sometimes you need to do something outside of the house and receive praise for it because you often don’t receive praise for the gazillions of praiseworthy tasks and projects in your home. That’s so true. And I don’t think that’s a reflection on my husband or her husband. It goes both ways. When a husband mows the grass, it’s unlikely that a wife will run out and tell him how wonderful the grass looks, pointing out every perfect blade of grass. Or, imagine if the mower had tons of difficulties that day and he spent an extra half-hour trying to get it to work again. Would the average wife tell him how much his effort is appreciated and congratulate him on sticking with the difficult task to get the job done? I can only speak for myself by saying … probably not. The opposite is true. So, when I started hearing praise for the site from you lovely readers, my heart swelled. I felt unique. I felt appreciated. I felt like I was pretty good at something. We all need this sometimes!
So I just want to thank you all for stopping by Four Points Mom, and I especially want to thank those of you who comment on and share my posts. It means the world to know that someone else perceives my website as valuable information.
