I’m a runner. Let me be clear – I’m a “I run for fun when I feel like it and I’m not very fast” runner. A couple times a week I run the loop in our neighborhood, but the hills are killer. So, I am always looking for relatively flat places to run. Occasionally, I’ll be posting about my favorite jogging trails here on Four Points Mom.
If you’re a runner these posts will have you like …
If you’re not, you’ll instead feel like this …
But, maybe even you non-runners will find a tidbit of information that you enjoy. I mean, no promises, but I’ll try. 😉
First up on my jogging trail list is Brushy Creek Trail.
I just love this jogging trail. It reminds me of the scenic trails I used to run on when I lived in Seattle. There are lots of trees so a big portion of it is nicely shaded. Plus, as its name suggests, it follows along beside a creek and you’ll have tons of nature to gaze at (which hands-down beats most other flat places you can run around the Four Points area).
Much of the path I’ve run on consists of a wide paved sidewalk which gives you plenty of room when passing others. And I’m a sucker for the several bridges throughout the trail that help you pretend you’re not in the middle of the city. There is a stretch between Brushy Creek Lake Park and Champion Park that is crushed gravel which my knees appreciate too. I’ve only run a bit further east than Champion Park but I’m sure the rest of the trail in that direction is just as nice.
The trail passes through six different parks which contain a combination of splash pads, swimming areas, climbing rocks, fishing docks, and even canoeing and kayaking. So, if you’re running or walking with one or two kids in a stroller, you have a variety of mid- or post-run play options.
Here’s the playground at Brushy Creek Lake Park. Yay for shade!
A few steps down the trail and you’ll find the splash pad which will help cool off you and your little ones. And, don’t forget that you can find out more about this splash pad and many others on my Splash Pads & Pools page.
Further down the trail is Champion Park, which has a variety of play options for your kids, including the Whale Sprayscape …
The Dinosaur Climbing Area, …
And the giant sandbox.
I do want to caution you, though, that the hours of operation for the water activities are limited so check the Williamson County Park’s website or the Champion Park and Brushy Creek Lake Park’s information on the Four Point Mom’s Splash Pads & Pools page before going.
The trail is 6.75 miles long. For those of us coming from the Four Points area, the closest way to access the trail is to start at the Twin Lakes Family YMCA parking lot. From there, it is about 2.7 miles to the Brushy Creek Lake Park. If you’re not planning on running as long and you have kids in tow, you might want to start at Brushy Creek Lake Park and run to Champion Park and back. That loop is about 3 miles.
To see where the various parks and restrooms are located along the trail, check out this Map of Brushy Creek Trail.
