Climbing Around at Elizabeth Milburn Playground

Climbing Around at Elizabeth Milburn Playground

A couple weeks ago, a fellow Four Points Mom posted a photo of her kids playing on a unique-looking playground that I didn’t recognize.  I asked her where it was and she told me it was Elizabeth Milburn Park in Cedar Park, and it was one of her favorites in the area.  Well, that’s all the encouragement I needed to add it to the list of playgrounds to visit.

The drive from our house was just at 25 minutes, so this park is right on the edge of what I consider the toddler-friendly drive zone.  But, a little heavier than usual traffic on 620 a few extra minutes that day.  Who am I kidding?  620 always has traffic these days! Once you turn left on Anderson Mill from 620, it’s just a few minutes up the road.

Elizabeth Milburn park is a huge park, with over forty acres of amenities including the playground, swimming pool, recreational BMX track, soccer fields, baseball backstops, community gardens, and more.  When we went on a late Friday morning, though, it wasn’t busy at all.

The parking lot (which is next to the bathrooms) is about a 2-minute walk from the playground.  In other words, make sure you grab everything you need from the car before heading to the playground area (i.e., sunscreen and water bottles).

The playground itself is awesome.  There are two separate play areas adjacent to one another.    The big kid area is the most unique, but I’ll save the best for last.

First up – the little kid area. The little kid area was perfect for my two-year-old.  There were plenty of stairs and pseudo-rock walls she could use to get up the structure and easy slides to get down.

For those who want to work on their balancing, there are cute little posts that kids can walk around in a circle guided by an adult.  There were also two baby swings in this area.

The big kid playground was a big hit for both of my kids.  The colors and visual appeal of the pseudo-rock structures just pop out.  The most eye-grabbing feature is the geometric dome climber.  This one is huge.  The big kid play area also had a few slides and swings.

Plus, there are plenty of other climbing features that made my heart skip a beat.  Foster and Parker both enjoyed spinning in circles and jumping on this little bouncer.  If you look behind Parker, you’ll see the “new” rock climbing wall that is near the playground and designed for big kids and adults.

There are tons of big shade trees to provide shade to parents watching from the side, and several parts of the playground had shade canopies (since the playground otherwise isn’t under tree cover).

The playground is right next to the pool, so you could easily make a half-day trip to both for a few bucks.  You can find Pricing Information for the Elizabeth Milburn Pool on my Splash Pads & Pools Page.

Do I recommend this playground?

ABSOLUTELY!  I have no hesitation in telling you to head to Cedar Park to wow your kiddos with this one-of-a-kind park.  But what do you think?  Leave a comment below telling the Four Points Community your thoughts or ask related questions before you head out there yourself!
