Next up on our playground adventures list this summer is Sun Tree Park.
Back in March, the playground at River Place’s Sun Tree Park underwent a complete upgrade. To be honest, I thought the previous playground equipment was more than adequate, but I didn’t complain when the new equipment was unveiled a couple months ago.
Wow, right? I was thrilled that the playground design still included two areas — one for older kids and one for younger kids.
The older kids can enjoy monkey bars, a challenging rock climbing wall, and other jungle gym-type areas.
Although Parker loves following Foster around the bigger playground, she also enjoys feeling “big” doing everything the smaller playground offers, including the rock climbing wall and balance beam features.
Plus, there are two sets of 4 swings, including infant swings. Here’s a photo of one of the sets.
And, they have a spinning thing (yeah, I need to work on the playground lingo) alongside a rocking seat (which always causes me to envision a child’s teeth getting knocked out.
A new feature with the upgrade is a music-making station.
Restrooms? Two single-use bathrooms are a short walk away as part of the covered pavilion. There’s even a changing table in the women’s bathroom.
Picnic Areas? Yes – there are probably about 20 tables across the park, including those under the pavilion, under trees near the playground, and near the fields. We enjoyed a breakfast picnic in the shade this time.
Shade? Yes – tons! The entire playground is covered plus there are plenty of trees covering most of the other play areas. The swings, though, are not covered.
Parking? Unless you’re there on a weekend morning or during a special event, you shouldn’t have any problems finding parking in the lot directly next to the playground.
Extras? The big new sand box is a huge hit with Parker. This morning we only stopped by for a short time before heading out on errands, so I was the mean mom who didn’t let her in the sand box. But, the poor girl tried so hard to sneak in …
Sun Tree Park also has great walking trails and an extra “work-out” area for adults, including pull-up bars and sit-up areas.
As you can tell, we love Sun Tree Park and will continue to regularly stop by. Tell me what you love about it too!
