Hi everyone! If you’re like me you’re still trying to decide what to do with the family on July 4th. We have so many area celebrations to choose from …
Today’s post is rounding up some local events in the Four Points Area (containing neighborhood parade info from River Place and Steiner Ranch), Four Points fireworks, and ending with a few greater Austin fireworks and all-day events that are sure to be a blast.
Also, keep reading because at the end of today’s post I announce the winner of the Hat Creek Burger Company $50 giveaway! Fourth of July and Hat Creek Burgers certainly go well together if I must say so myself. 😉
Four Points Neighborhood Events
Steiner Ranch’s Independence Day Celebration
Beginning at 9 am, the Steiner Ranch Neighborhood Parade will be loads of fun for your kids. They’ll find carnival rides, water inflatables, bungee jumping, a kiddie train, a rock wall, balloons, face painting, plus live music from the Austin Civic Wind Ensemble.
Plus, the Steiner Ranch HOA hosts the Decorate Your Ride event from 8 am – 9 am on July 4th at Towne Square Park. The HOA supplies streamers, stickers and other décor to help kids deck out their ride in patriotic fashion. (This is only available for the first 50 attendees)
Sun Tree Park in River Place
Guaranteed to get your day started off the right way, the River Place HOA’s annual Fourth of July Parade starts at 9:30 am. There are prizes for “best decorated” so be sure to decorate your bikes, wagons, strollers, kids, dogs, and yourself! The parade is short enough for even the least experienced bike or trike riders (it just circles Sun Tree Park). I apologize in advance for my son who tends to believe the parade is a race … I’m the mom running after Speedy Gonzalez, likely raising my voice a bit. 😉
After the parade, there are cold treats (hello red, white, and blue bullet popsicles), crafts, and other fun activities. And, don’t forget to check out Sun Tree’s Playground and let me know if you agree with my overwhelmingly positive review.
Greater Four Points Area Fireworks
Austin Country Club
This is a favorite fireworks show for many Four Points families. The fireworks are shot from the golf course at ACC and the surrounding hills have excellent views. Plus, you can make it home in less than half an hour which is a huge draw! I’ve heard that the show starts around 9:30 pm. Tip: a few of my friends have told me that they love parking on the top of the West Courtyard area parking garages.
Lago Vista 4th of July Celebration
Lago Vista is celebrating all day, beginning with the Firecracker 5K Run/ Walk at 8 am. There’s also a Kids’ Fun Run at 9:30 am and the parade at 10 am. All day you can enjoy a party at Bark K Park and fireworks at dark.
Lake Travis’ Starnes Island Show
If you want to start your celebrations a day early, Starnes Island hosts the biggest firework show on Lake Travis on July 3rd. The island is just offshore from Volente Beach Resort, so you might want to make it an afternoon of fun at there resort. If you’ve been in the past, please post comments below about your experience. I’d love to hear them! We’re thinking about going but I’m not sure if it will be too crowded for our little ones to get to enjoy the waterpark without me losing my mind.
Greater Austin Area All-Day Events
Cedar Park’s Fourth of July Celebration
Cedar Park offers a morning Parade and evening Celebration again this year. The parade starts at 10 am at the H-E-B Center and the celebration goes from 5 pm to 10:30 pm at Elizabeth Milburn Park. The Cedar Park Fourth of July Celebration will be tons of fun for the whole family, featuring live music, bingo, a washer tournament, air castles, free watermelon, live music, and, of course, FIREWORKS! The fireworks are scheduled to begin at 9:15 pm and will be followed by the “After Glow” Dance.
To top it off, don’t forget to stop by the Elizabeth Milburn Playground, which I wrote about last year, or the Elizabeth Milburn Pool, which you can find pictures and details on my Splash Pads & Pools page. The pool is open from 1 pm – 8 pm.
Georgetown’s July 4th Celebration & Fireworks
We’ll be visiting family in Georgetown this year for July 4th, so we might check out the Georgetown July 4th Celebration & Fireworks ourselves. This is an all-day affair, beginning at 11 am with the “Hometown Parade” followed by performances until the fireworks begin at 9:30 pm. The kids will love the petting zoo, rides, trackless train, remote-controlled cars and miniature golf course.
Georgetown truly is one of the cutest “smallish” towns around. The town square is reminiscent of the good ole days of soda shops and poodle skirts. I’ll be posting about Georgetown and its many hidden treasures in an Out of Bounds post soon. Stay tuned!
H-E-B Austin Symphony July 4th Concert & Fireworks
Along with a live performance from the Austin Symphony Orchestra, enjoy a firework show downtown at Vic Mathias Shores (formerly Auditorium Shores). The H-E-B Austin Symphony July 4th Concert & Fireworks claims to be the “largest Independence Day Celebration in the state.” FYI – expect to be amongst 100,000 other people enjoying the show.
The Austin Symphony Orchestra performs at 8:30 pm, and the fireworks start at approximately 9:30 pm.
Hill Country Galleria’s Independence Day Celebration
Celebrate the fourth with some shopping and fireworks at the Hill Country Galleria. Live music begins at 6:00, but the shops will be partaking in a day-long sidewalk sale too. We attended three years ago and really enjoyed ourselves (although the traffic jam to get out afterwards wasn’t that fun). When we attended, there were tons of outdoor vendors set up selling food and drinks as well as bounce houses and other family-friendly activities. For example, this year backyard games, hosted by Camp Gladiator, will start at 4 pm. Plus, remember the splash pad I mentioned last week? What a nice refreshing way to cool the kids off if you’re handing out there all afternoon.
Fireworks are expected to start at 9:15 pm.
Round Rock Frontier Days Celebration
Rock Rock’s Frontier Days Celebration is the event that has it all: a parade, carnival rides, pig races, children’s games, movies, and skydivers. Starting at 10 am, the Round Rock Sertoma July 4th Parade takes off from Main Street in downtown Round Rock. Then there’s the Activity Zone, including caricature artists, face painters, and balloon twisters. Events continue all day long, but the Free Parks & Recreation Activity Zone is sure to please the kiddos. Between 4:30 and 6:30 pm, there you’ll find slip-n-slides and obstacle courses galore. Here’s a link to the full schedule – it’s jam-packed!
Fireworks are scheduled to begin at dark displayed with music from the Austin Symphonic Band, and will be followed by a screening of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
This isn’t all the Fourth of July fun you can find in Austin and the surrounding communities. You can find even more events here. And chime in with your experiences and tips below!
