It’s Four Points Mom & Books Day … and the crowd goes wild!
Okay, so maybe the crowd’s not going wild. But, I know at least two or three of you are excited to see if I have any other recommendations for you. For me, that’s enough for a crowd. 😉
If you want to check out my previous reviews, you can always enter books in the search bar above. Or, you can just click on January, February, or March to check out my 2018 reviews. Plus, you can see ALL the books I’ve remembered to track on my GoodReads page.
Bear Town by Fredrik Backman
I absolutely loved Bear Town! If you’ve been following my reviews, you know that I’ve red a few of Fredrik Backman’s books, and I’ve recommended most of them. Bear Town is now my favorite of his books BY FAR. Even better than A Man Called Ove! When I first read the summary, I was not that excited. It’s a book about a hockey town – what? However, don’t let the summary fool you. It’s much more than hockey. I actually downloaded this book on Audible a few months ago and just couldn’t get that excited to read it. I told my husband there was a book about hockey on our Audible account and he would probably enjoy it (being Canadian and therefore a hockey fan). This was the first fiction book that he actually made time to read despite not being on vacation. He knew I would love it too. He was right.
My emotions were all over the place while reading this book because because the author is incredible at writing characters into life. It starts with an act of violence that tears the town apart. From the first few pages, you’re in and there’s no stopping until the end. Download/ Buy/ Check Out this book!
What Happened by Hillary Rodham Clinton
DISCLAIMER: I am not going political on you. I really am not political and I bet most of my friends don’t have a clue who I voted for (because I just don’t like conflict and the last election season was all about conflict!).
That being said, I enjoyed Hillary Clinton’s book because I think many of us (regardless of who we voted for) are/were thinking just that: “What Happened?”. Not only does she talk about the campaign, but she shares alot of information about her previous career life, childhood, and so much more that I found super interesting. Yes – it’s definitely biased (as you would expect considering she’s writing it), but I think anyone with an open mind will enjoy at least part of it. I recommend What Happened.
The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory
A quick read, The Wedding Date is cute and extremely predictable. A guy and a girl find themselves stuck in an elevator and get to talking. The guy begs the girl to be his date to a wedding that weekend and she agrees. They start seeing other informally, begin to really like each other (yet of course never tell the other person so), and then both pretend like it’s not that serious. Will they admit they’re falling in love before it’s too late? Dun dun dun … lol. Unfortunately, I didn’t love it and found myself just wanting the author to wrap it up.
Camino Island by John Grisham
I really liked Camino Island! I’ve mentioned before that I typically enjoy John Grisham books, but I haven’t been that impressed with some of the recent ones I’ve read. Camino Island made me think “Yes – there he is!” The book starts with the theft of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s original manuscripts from a university’s highly-secure library. The book follows a bunch of characters on all sides of the theft, intertwining their stories together. The main character is a struggling author who is hired to return to the town she spent her summers in to get to know a book store owner who is assumed to be in possession of the stolen manuscripts. I now definitely want to move to a cute Florida island and live the island island. I recommend Camino Island if you’re a Grisham fan (or even if you’re not because it’s not that much of a legal drama like his other ones).
Alright, have you read any of these books? Do you have any I should add to my to-read list! And don’t forget to follow me on GoodReads to see what else I’m reading.
