Friday is here! I don’t know about you but this week seemed to fly by for me. I was super busy at work, the kids had several activities, and we spent several days doing laundry from our trip last week. Whew … it was exhausting but yay for Friday!
In case you’re new around here, I love throwing together a Friday Favorites blog post. These are totally random slices of favorites from the past week or so. Here’s a link to my last Friday Favorites to give you some back story. You can also search for Friday Favorites in the top menu to find more of these posts.
So, what am I excited to share with you today?
Breckenridge!
Last year we went to Copper Mountain with the kids and my husband’s mom and brother. Unfortunately, on the drive to the mountain Foster started acting sick and instead of taking him skiing we spent 4 days up all night dealing with 104-degree fevers. Strep throat is no fun! This was the extent of his fun from last year.
And how cute did little Parker look?
(swoon …)
So, we decided to do a repeat this year, hoping Foster would finally get out on the mountain and have a blast. I think it was a success!
He immediately picked it up and was such a rock star. This is him weaving through the trees on his second day.
You can hear me cracking up – I couldn’t get over his fearlessness.
Parker just hung out near the magic carpet ride a little bit (but I’m confident she’ll be out there with her brother next year). She mostly enjoyed eating the snow. Gross, but true. 🙂
And here is Foster approximately 90 seconds after we explained that he cannot climb up the snow to the roof because that is NOT safe.
Boys …
Okay, I thought this photo was so sweet that I had to share. When we were checking in at the airport, the kids were running around, bumping into everyone and everything. I finally (okay, it probably didn’t take me that long in reality) lost my patience and slightly raised my voice (ha) to tell the kids to sit down and not move. Parker started crying. I heard these ladies behind me saying “oh, how sweet … what a nice big brother.” Then I saw this.
Yeah, I felt pretty bad at that point. 😉 But, at least her brother is nice when her mom can’t be anymore!
Easter!
The kids missed most of the Easter celebrations at school and in our neighborhood due to our trip. However, we got back in town just in time to catch the end of our neighborhood’s Easter shindig. We missed the egg hunt but Parker did get to snuggle up with a bunny.
Knowing the kids would miss their class parties and we would have a couple long travel days before Easter, the Easter bunny came a little early on Tuesday to drop off baskets with goodies for their trip.
The kids were thrilled!
On Easter we enjoyed a morning at church and the kids even sat with us in “grownup church” and were pretty much angels. #praisejesus #heisrisen 🙂
That afternoon we had family over and the Easter bunny came AGAIN to drop off more treats to rot their teeth.
And, how gorgeous has the weather been lately? I could hang outside with the kiddos all day every day!
*Sidenote – I forgot to put on mascara before racing out the door for church. I feel like I’m usually 80% on top of things. Does this ring true for anybody else?
Meet Cinca!
You may remember that our cat, Wisy, ran away and likely was eaten by coyotes in January. (RIP Wiscy). Our other cat, Stu, was very lonely so last month we adopted Cinca. Cinca is Jarrod’s and my fifth cat, so we named her Cinca (five in Spanish, with “a” at the end since she is a girl). Ha.
Cinca is quite skittish and is just now letting the kids pet her occasionally. We’re hoping she warms up to us because we love cuddling with our kitties.
Busy Days!
The kids aren’t in school Tuesdays and Thursdays and that’s typically when we run around like crazy people trying to accomplish more than is physically possible. This past Tuesday was one of those days since we had to have Cinca dropped off downtown at Austin Pets Alive! before 9 am and picked back up between 5 and 6 to be spayed. We made the most of it though.
We started with breakfast at the downtown Whole Foods.
Did you know there is a nice little playground on the top of Whole Foods? Somehow I didn’t until a couple months ago. The kids loved playing with the “city” behind them.
We enjoyed eating our eclectic breakfast picked up downstairs (including breakfast tacos, fruit, muffins, croissants, and coffee) and burned some calories afterwards.
It was practically empty when we were there which was nice because the kids were free to run around and play within a confined space without me losing track of them.
After Whole Foods we finally stopped by the Hope Outdoor Gallery.
I’ve seen so many awesome photos of friends and their kids there and I’ve wanted to check it out for years. Finally, we stopped by and I love some of these photos.
They are tearing the place down and building a new one in the coming months, so if you want to check out the original before it’s gone you better go ASAP!
I recommend you wear sturdy shoes and clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. The dirt ground is really slippery and we all slipped several times and managed to get covered in dirt. Also, if you don’t like dirty things, like Parker, this might not be for you.
Lots of trash and used spray paint cans laying around. But, it didn’t bother me too much. 🙂
My friend, Annie, raves about Home Depot’s FREE workshops for kids. She let me know that tomorrow they are hosting a Build Your Own Birdhouse Workshop. My kids will love doing this and I’ve signed up! Here’s the blurb from the Home Depot website:
Encourage a love for nature and ornithology in our hands-on workshop where you and your child can build a window birdhouse. Your young birdwatcher can observe birds’ behaviors like building a nest and watching eggs hatch without the need for expensive equipment. Once your birdhouse is built, your child can decorate it with paint and stickers. All Kids Workshop attendees must be accompanied by a parent or adult at all times. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last. Children must be present at the store to participate in the workshop and receive the kit, apron, and pin
