Every other week I link up with a few of my favorite bloggers like Andrea at Momfessionals and talk about a specified topic. Today for Show & Tell Tuesday I’m telling you all about my favorite holiday. I think we all have a favorite holiday. Many of you might have unique choices like Easter or Independence Day. Not me, though. I’m as predictable as ever. My favorite holiday without any question is …
CHRISTMAS!!
Why is Christmas my favorite holiday? Well, let me give you a few reasons.
Jesus is the Reason for the Season
The number one reason I love Christmas is that we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I can remember back to when I was a little girl and was the north star during the Christmas story performance at church. I was so excited because I had the most “face time” on stage. But, they obviously put me there because I was too old to be the baby and too young to remember any lines. LOL. But my costume was pretty amazing.
For the past couple of years we’ve been talking to Foster about the true meaning of Christmas and it’s wonderful to see him get into it and talk about Jesus’ birthday. Plus, our church does a great job of reminding us of the true meaning of Christmas. Here I am with my grandmother at the Christmas Eve candlelight service.
Christmas Decorations
Although it now seems like everyone decorates for every holiday, I’ve loved decorating my house for Christmas since I was a kid. I can’t wait to share all of our decorations with you this Christmas!
Elf on the Shelf
This tradition is a new part of our pop culture, but boy has it taken control of many of us parents of young children. Although it can be overwhelming and a serious case of keeping up with the Joneses, I do love finding new places to hide “Ho Ho” around the house. Plus, sometimes a little blackmail involving a little elf who may or may not be chatting it up with Santa in the evenings can truly help keep your kids in line. Ya know what I’m sayin’?
Holiday Movies
Love Actually is on Netflix so I just might have it on repeat between the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. Don’t judge. I also have the DVD but Netflix is just much easier … This year I think Foster (and maybe even Parker) will also enjoy other holiday movies like The Elf, The Grinch, and Home Alone. (And what’s a better excuse for eating holiday treats than sitting with your family on the couch watching a holiday movie?
Finding the Perfect Gift
Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll start compiling my Christmas gift list and begin searching for the perfect gifts for each of these friends and family members. Although I typically stress out an unreasonable amount over finding the perfect gift for the right price, I do enjoy the process. It’s a love-hate relationship.
Seeing Christmas Through My Children’s Eyes
Before having kids I heard it all the time: “You’ll never know joy until you see it through your children’s eyes.” This is so true. As an only child, I grew up having Christmases pretty much be all about me. I can’t even remember thinking about what I might receive anymore. I typically find myself fighting tears as I watch Foster’s and Parker’s faces as they come in the family room to find out what Santa left the night before.
I know I’m not alone in this feeling, but it really is surreal how quickly you begin focusing less on yourself and filling that bucket by witnessing their raw emotions.
The Holiday Spirit
I think this photo is a good representation of the many emotions surrounding Christmas. We’re often all a bit stressed out around the holidays as we’re running extra errands, preparing for the holidays. However, we’re all a little happier too. I love how more of us are smiling at each other, offering to help one another out, being more charitable, and just in a more hospitable spirit. But there are some people who feel more like Parker … lol.
The Christmas Performances
This is new for us but I just LOVE that I have more of these performances to look forward to in the coming years … lol.
My son certainly entertains us all when he’s on stage. Ha.
One Month of Celebrating
And I’m going to wrap up today’s post just pointing out that we usually celebrate Christmas for an entire month! As a child, my parents would give me a little gift every day of December leading up to Christmas. (Remember, I’m a spoiled only child.) Well, the tradition continues with my kiddos.
Here are the box of little toys wrapped up this past year. Foster opened a new Hot Wheels every day and Parker opened either a Peppa Pig character or Care Bear.
Alright, that’s it you guys. What is your favorite holiday? Share with us in the comments!
